Review: Wanted: Weapons of Fate (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

"Magic Bullets Abound"
I came into “Wanted: Weapons of Fate” not expecting much. The game being a videogame adaptation of a film, that is an adaptation of a graphic novel, I was prepared for the worst. Surprisingly, Wanted: WoF actually manages to rise above the average licensed game.
The game begins immediately after the movie ends, and without having watched the movie since its release in theaters, I wasn’t quite sure what was going on half the time. The player character swaps between Wesley and his father, Cross, both telling their own story between two different time lines. The story is a poor follow-up to the film, which didn’t have too strong of a plot to begin with.
The gameplay, on the other hand, is handled quite well. Centering on the movies bullet curving, nearly all of the shooting is done with Wesley’s pistol and Cross’s burst-fire dual pistols. Both weapons have unique versions of the games “curve the bullet” mechanism. Curving bullets around cover is a very satisfying, especially when you score a head-shot and you get to watch it in slow motion bullet-time.
Where Wanted: WoF falls terribly short is its run time. I finished the entire game on normal difficulty in just over 4 hours. That is simply ridiculous. The game ends before it gets a chance to really get interesting. The only replay value is in the unlockable player characters and higher difficulty.
In the end, Wanted is a great rental, even more so for fans of the film (who might actually know what is going on). But, with such a pathetic length, I can’t recommend a purchase. Even for the most die-hard fan.

Jonah "spambot" Gregory says:What I’ve played so far has been a lot of fun.
The cover system works well and has a little more to it than in most shooters. I like the ability to blind fire, confusing your location, move around to the back of a guy and take him out.
The adrenaline system for special moves works pretty well and adds that videogaminess to the whole thing.
Sadly, I think I’m nearly finished with the game already. Like you said, it’s just starting to really get interesting.
