Barrel Roll #80 – “Scott Pilgrim VS The WingDamage”
On a very special eightieth episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, Jonah and Jesse come together with only one common goal: To not break the streak of having posted a new Barrel Roll episode every week since the show’s inception.
Crazy stuff has been going down in the real world, so the guys keep things on topic and as concise as possible this time around.

Barrel Roll! #78 – “It Was Endor the Whole Time”
On a very special seventy-eight episode of the podshow “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, we learn the dark truth about this supposedly “new” planet we found ourselves on. Oh sure, all signs pointed to the defeat of The Empire thousands of years before, but a planet where humans evolved from Ewoks? Pure madness.
That is, until we found it. The last remaining vestige of a world now destroyed. The cursed statue that showed the world was not what we once thought it was. It was our beloved Endor the whole time.
What’s the Deal with Genre Labels?
Back in my younger days, I swore by genre definitions. I had a very clear idea in mind of what I thought classified a game into each genre. Any deviation from those rules outlined in my head required a subgenre. But as time marched on, I’ve come to realize how incredibly ridiculous all this is.
While genres are a nice way to quickly identify what to expect from a game, I’ve run into quite a few issues with the concept. For one, different people classify genres differently. There’s also the issue of the increasing trend of blending genres. And what about the literal names themselves? Some of them just don’t make sense any more.

Barrel Roll! #75 – “The Burger Kids King Club”
On a very special seventy-fifth episode of Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast, the crew teams up with The Burger Kids King Club for a regal good time. It is up to them to defeat the evil forces of Team Edward Potter and the Vampire’s Werewolf in a battle royal for the ages. Will their secret combined power of the double rainbow be enough?
Also, video games. Also, hot jams. Possibly jellies.
Barrel Roll! #74 – “ScissorMans win the World Cup!”
On a very special seventy-fourth episode of the video game podcast “Barrel Roll!”, the guys witness history in the making as Scissor-Man scores a million goal-points to win the World Cup for team ScissorMans.
We also talk about video games.
Barrel Roll! #52 – “Let’s Kill Mega Man!”
On a very special fifty-second episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, we are joined once again by The Mega Man Network’s own Adam “Heat Man” Anania. He throws down with some old school flavor on Zelda II: The Adventures of Link and Little Samson for the NES.
Wes returns with more tales of the iPhone and the adventure games he has been playing there; namely Broken Sword: Director’s Cut. Jesse finished Dark Void and Assassin’s Creed II, and also started on the anime/dog fighter, The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces. More importantly to #1 Super Fan, Russ Walsh, he has imported and tells us all about Game Center CX: Arino no Chousenjou 2 (aka Retro Game Challenge 2, if it ever came out in the states).
Review: Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360, PC)
Last May, I finally got around to finishing the original Mass Effect. This was mostly so I could do a write-up on the game for WingDamage.
Boy, am I ever glad I did. As I mentioned in that review, I was very interested to see how things were going to shake out in the sequel. Bioware had mentioned that you would be able to transfer your save file from the original game into Mass Effect 2. What I thought that meant was that your character would look the same and maybe a few key decisions would carry over. The reality blew my mind.
Barrel Roll! #51 – “Dude, Where’s My Pizza Cats?”
On a very special fifty-first episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, we are joined by Rebel FM podcaster extraordinaire, Tyler Barber. He tells us all about his history as a gamer and how he got started podcasting about games.
In what we’ve been playing, there is discussion of Mass Effect 2, in which any spoilers are very carefully avoided. We also talk about the adorable indie game, Toki Tori, Wes’s completion of The Saboteur, the surprisingly good Tatsunoko VS Capcom (which has a disturbing lack of pizza related cats), the sadly disappointing Dark Void, and DS JRPG WTFBBQ Sands of Destruction. Wes also tells tales of more junk for the iPhone.
