Barrel Roll! #137 – “Now With Bears”

0

A regular Barrel Roll podcast is no longer enough. But what could we possibly do to up the ante? Bears, and lots of them!

This week, Adam Anania is back again, with more tales of magic and wonder. It appears that his 3DS has become self-healing. Can world domination be far behind?

In our “Games Played Over the Course of the Week” segment, Jonah and Wes played through the Rochard demo and found a pleasant mix of 2D puzzles and gravity guns. Wes discovered that he isn’t into the “constantly punch you in the face” genre, and returned Dark Souls quickly after renting it. He did the same with X-Men: Destiny, but for reasons of suckitude, not difficulty. After his 3DS’s miraculous return, Adam grabbed Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins. Both he and Jesse seem to agree that it holds up well. Jesse finished a playthrough of Hitogata Happa after figuring out its unique mechanics, and continued his questing in Solatorobo.

Not wanting to leave any colossi unslain, Jesse and Jonah finally finished Shadow of the Colossus. It only took them re-releasing it in HD for them to get around to it. Jonah also went back to Rock of Ages and managed to get over the weird difficulty bump on the Pestilence level.

The guys also discuss the new games of the week, and the video game news. All this plus more on Barrel Roll #137, “Now With Bears”!

Barrel Roll! #136 – “Shadow of the HD Colossus”

1

On this, the one-hundred and thirty-sixth episode of the Barrel Roll podshow, Adam Anania joins us from Japan with tales of old cell phone games and magic.

It’s not all meat buns and field days though. Jonah, Jesse and Wes are also here to bring you the latest in games for the Playstation. The first one. You know, like Mega Man Legends and Die Hard Trilogy. Speaking of Mega Man, Adam gave Dr. Wily’s Revenge a whirl, and got some time in with Gargoyle’s Quest on the 3DS Virtual Console as well. Jesse brings more Xenoblade Chronicles talk and recommends checking out Michelle’s article about the game. He also talks Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, which it turns out is a baby game for babies, but still kind of fun.

For the MMO fans in the audience (insert crickets here), Jonah gave Rift a try. In a desperate bid to avoid talking more Disgaea 4, which he is still obsessed with, he also started his playthrough of Rock of Ages. Our “Let’s Play Together” segment returns once again for some controller swapping, colossi hunting adventurin’ with Jonah and Jesse’s excursion into Shadow of the Colossus HD.

In the news we discuss the rumors of Yakuza of the End leaving Japan, the possible return of PaRappa the Rapper and Nippon Ichi’s new game The Witch and the Hundred Cavalrymen. All this, plus the new games this week on Barrel Roll #136, “Shadow of the HD Colossus”.

Mega Man Legends 3 Cancelled

2

The Saddest Sad That Ever SaddedAfter holding the world record in “number of times to announce Mega Man Legends 3” (via our podcast), we somehow willed the game into existence.  Then, just like that, Capcom put its mouth up to our ear, as if to whisper a release date for the long awaited game, and shouted, “PSYCH!!”

Capcom gave the official word on the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 today on their blog. With the game still not greenlit, the prototype delayed indefinitely, and dev room blog updates slowing down to a trickle, the writing was certainly on the wall. Still, after over a decade of waiting for a sequel, it is a mighty blow to fans of the series.

With the cancellation of Mega Man Universe and Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune’s departure still fresh in mind, the news of Legends 3‘s death has led many to wonder what the future holds for the blue bomber. Maybe now we can get a Mega Man Legends Official Complete Works art book. Too Soon?

Barrel Roll! #116 – “A Million Mega Man Legends”

0

On the one-hundred and sixteenth episode, we kick things off with Japan talk, then Simpson’s talk, then GRMRB, an acronym so powerful, only Jesse knows what it means.

Later in the show, there is plenty more talk of Mega Man Legends, since Jonah finally finished it. Adam and Jesse happen to be replaying it for their other podcast, so they have a lot to chime in with as well.

Jesse has more crazy stories from Yakuza 4, which make Jonah once again contemplate jumping ahead in the series to that one. In the meantime, he finally decided to download a demo on WiiWare (a thing he wishes there were more of) in the form of Bit.Trip.Runner. With an absence of Wes, it is also up to Jonah to talk about an iPhone game. This time around it’s Pac-Chomp, a mix of match-3 puzzles and ghost eating.

All this and more on the latest installment of the Barrel Roll! Podshow, “A Million Mega Man Legends”.

Tales From the Backlog #3: Mega Man Legends (PS1)

2

Tales From the Backlog” is a series of articles in which WingDamage Editor-in-Chief, Jonah Gregory, finally gets around to playing through the many games he has collected throughout the years.

Well folks, it looks like I already blew it. This series of articles was started as nothing more than an excuse for me to play through old video games, specifically ones that I either completely missed or never finished back when they were new. But with Mega Man Legends, it turns out I actually did complete it way back when.

Still, it was a great excuse to play through what is a more enjoyable experience than I was expecting.

That may have come out sounding more like a backhanded compliment than intended. The truth of the matter is, our memories are dirty liars. There are so many games from the PS1 era that don’t hold up (I’m not singling it out, N64 is at least as guilty of this, if not more so), that I was very worried Mega Man Legends was going to fall into that category.

Barrel Roll! #115 – “5,000 Missiles Strong”

2

On the latest installment of the Barrel Roll Podshow, Adam 1 returns from the Nether-realms with tales of Minecraft co-op play (and trolling).

The guys decide that everything that can be said about Portal 2 without spoiling it has been said, and Jesse moves on to more insane SHMUP action with a return to Ikaruga and the 5,000 missile strong Bangai-o HD: Missile Fury. Jonah finally finishes Mega Man Legends, and realizes he did complete it back in the day after all, and moves on to much more nerdy endeavors with Magic: The Gatherin’ – Duels of the Plainswalkers and Sim City 4.

There is also much talk of Dragon Quest IX, which Adam has just started up, as well as a ton of recent XBLA demos.

All this plus news and the games releasing this week on Barrel Roll! #115, “5,000 Missiles Strong”.

Decide What I Play Next!

2

If you follow WingDamage at all, you’ve no doubt noticed that I started going through my backlog and playing through games I never finished in the past. There are quite a few of them, since I have the bad habit of playing large chunks of games but never finishing them.

This is where you, the reader, come in. As I go through my stack, I’ll periodically put up a poll where you can vote on which out of several games I will be forced to play and write about next.

Mega Man Legends 3 Confirmed… For Real! Coming to 3DS

Mega Man Legends 3 Confirmed For Real on 3DS

"No seriously... we're not making it up this time."

We don’t normally cover any news on WingDamage (other than on the podcast), but today is different. As long time readers and listeners of the Barrel Roll! podcast are already aware, Mega Man Legends is a series that’s near and dear to us. We do everything we can to make sure a sequel will get in development from spreading the word about what makes the games great to posting a PSA to suggest it in Capcom Unity’s suggestion box.

Well it finally happened… seriously.

After over a year and a half of jokingly confirming Mega Man Legends 3 on our podcast, we’ll finally be able to confirm it for real on next week’s episode. In honor of that very special episode, please take this opportunity to share your thoughts on the series, past and future, in the comments section of this post, or email them to us at podcast@wingdamage.com and maybe we’ll share them on the show.

Check out the juicy details of the game over at The Mega Man Network, share your thoughts with us, and never give up hope that dreams can come true.

Thanks, Capcom Unity!

PSA: Vote For Mega Man Legends 3 on Capcom Unity

"WingDamage thanks you in advance!"

"WingDamage thanks you in advance!"

As loyal readers and listeners of our podcast are all well aware, Mega Man Legends and Mega Man Legends 2 are both highly regarded here on WingDamage. The second game left on a cliff hanger. I mean, come on! We don’t just WANT a third game, we NEED a third game.

Fortunately, we have a new outlet for informing Capcom about our Mega Man Legends 3 demands. Capcom’s cleverly titled community site, Capcom Unity, has a new interactive feature currently in Beta appropriately named “The Suggestion Box“. Here Unity members can submit and vote on ideas for games and what not.
