King Arthur: Fallen Champions (PC)

I would say I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with strategy games, but I’d be lying to you. We just met. I don’t want to do that. No, I’ve never liked strategy games much. Just couldn’t work ‘em. Too many buttons.

I only started playing Starcraft 2 with any regularity over the past couple of months, and my skills are shaky at best. Some would say that this makes me an awful candidate to review King Arthur: Fallen Champions. I would say it makes me the perfect choice. After all, if I can figure it out and enjoy it, so could anybody!

Trauma PC Review

“We need a better word than video game.”

This is a statement I’ve heard a lot in the last few years. With the expansion of the medium, many have felt that the term unfairly describes certain forms of interactive entertainment. While I don’t necessarily agree, Trauma is the type of game that sparks this kind of discussion.

Review: Fortix 2 (PC, PS Minis)

0

On the surface, Fortix 2 seems all too simple. You draw lines to box in areas of the playing field, much like the arcade classic Qix. With a simple concept, it’s all about the execution. With Fortix 2, Nemesys Games executed their simple line drawing concept in such a way that had me totally addicted.

FOG Review: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (PC)

Friday Old Games” is a series of articles in which we review a game from the older generations of consoles, share why we picked it, and whether or not it holds up with time.

In 1992, when adventure games still reigned supreme with PC gaming nerds, LucasArts released one of their most beloved titles, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. It had everything a fan of both the adventure genre and the Indiana Jones movies could want.

You get to play as Indiana, traveling the world, fighting Nazis and solving the mystery of a lost civilization. What more could a fan ask for?

Free Portal 2 Soundtrack Volume 1 For Download Courtesy of Valve

Free Portal 2 Soundtrack Volume 1 For Download Courtesy of ValveAside from being an all around fantastic game, Portal 2 featured one of the most interesting and enjoyable game soundtracks of 2011 thus far. Valve, being the cool dudes and dudettes that they are, have released Volume 1 of the Portal 2 soundtrack for free download along with a few ringtones.

The 22 track OST appropriately titled Songs to Test By is sure to help you get through the day with the power of science. Just don’t go jumping off any tall structures while you listen to the eerie sounds of this minimalist electronica. You’re not wearing the right boots for it.

Review: Two Worlds II (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

0

If you would have asked me if I thought that Two Worlds was going to get a sequel, I wouldn’t have laughed, I would have slapped you in the face. Unless someone announces a sequel to Ninjabread Man this is the most surprising and unlikely sequel ever.

So you can understand that it was with great fear and trepidation that I put the Two Worlds II disc in my PS3. I groaned as the first enemy I faced became stuck in a wall as he half heartedly swung his weapon at me. I made it through the first dungeon and then finally to my first town. I fumbled my way through the initial quests, fighting things like ostriches and poo flinging baboons.

Every time I found a new place to explore, I was murdered instantly. It is not a good sign when an open world game punishes you for exploring. Needless to say I was not happy with the first couple hours of the game.

Get Your Ass to 17th-Century Mars in the Indie SHMUP, Jamestown

Get Your Ass to 17th-Century Mars in the Indie SHMUP, JamestownIndie SHMUPs might not be the rarest thing in the world, but indie developer Final Form Games aims to stand out with a few unique twists. Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony features 4-player co-op (instead of the standard 2) and an interesting setting: 17th-century British Colonial Mars.

The team is hoping to tell an interesting story featuring “Famous alt-historical figures! Majestic alien landscapes! Steampunk space tech! Hard-bitten settlers taking their shot at ekeing out a better life in the New World!” and “Redcoats and Martians settling their differences with spear and space-musket!” (more…)

Review: Dead Space 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

0

The original Dead Space is one of my favorite games to be released this generation, for good reason. It was a unique IP with an the interesting concept. Strategic dismemberment. The best way to kill Dead Space’s grisly, blades-for-arms space monsters was to shoot their limbs off.

It was gory, violent, and a hell of a lot of fun. Coupled the dark, foreboding corridors of the Ishimura and deadly, upgradable arsenal of industrial tools, everything came together perfectly to form a spine-chilling, adrenaline-fueled ride like no other.

Dead Space 2 sets out to build on all of this and manages to improve just about everything in the process. On top of that adds online multiplayer.

Tales From the Backlog #1: Assassin’s Creed (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

2

Tales From the Backlog” is a series of articles in which WingDamage Editor-in-Chief, Jonah Gregory, finally gets around to playing through the many games he has collected throughout the years.

I knew that a new addition to the family was going to mean a couple of things. First, less time for gaming and second, less money to spend on games. Don’t get me wrong, these are sacrifices I went in wholeheartedly expecting and willing to make, but it is also changes the nature of some of the coverage I am able to do here on WingDamage. At least for the time being.

On that note, I decided now was the best time (and the best excuse) I would ever have to start working through my pile of shame. You know, that stack of games you never get around to finishing?

First up on my list was Assassin’s Creed. It is a game that I tried very briefly after its launch, but until recently never had much interest in. This was before my epiphany during Saints Row 2 wherein open world games finally clicked for me. So after months of urging from Wes and Adam’s recent endeavors with the series, I decided it was the perfect place to start on my backlog.
