“Tales From the Backlog” is a series of articles in which WingDamage Editor-in-Chief, Jonah Gregory, finally gets around to playing through the many games he has collected throughout the years.

It isn’t often when a game comes along that pushes all the right nostalgia buttons. Everything I had heard and seen about Retro Game Challenge should have made me run out and buy the game on day one. Jesse even gave it a good review. I know, I’m part of the problem in this case and not the solution.

As part of my attempt to catch up on the awesome games I’ve missed over the years, I knew I had to remedy this situation. Fortunately, Amazon still carried Retro Game Challenge, as it seems to have disappeared from most store shelves.

On this, the one-hundred and fourth episode of our fine internet radio program, the guys are too depressed to discuss the news. Layoffs, layoffs and more layoffs. The upside is lots of good games come out this week.

A few games were also played this week, including the iPhone versions of NBA Jam and Super Street Fighter IV. Jonah finally picked up Retro Game Challenge and Jesse dove back in to Star Soldier R. Adam lets us know why he is giving up on Bionic Commando ReArmed 2.

The first full year of WingDamage is officially over. Though we all played a lot of games, we’re also enthusiasts with full-time jobs outside of the site. While there’s just not enough time in the day to play every game that comes out, we do our best. Below is a list of my personal picks of the games I felt where a cut above the rest. Expect to see the picks of our other writers soon after. And don’t worry, you’ll probably agree with their picks more than mine anyway.

First of all, I must say that I am amazed that Retro Game Challenge ever came to the states. In Japan, it is called GameCenter CX: Arino’s Challenge, sharing its name (sans the subtitle) with the Japan-only show in which it is based on. The show follows comedian Shinya Arino as he plays popular retro games and documents his progress. In this videogame adaption, things play out a little differently.
