We all have those games that we miss the first time around. With the busy release schedule of modern gaming, no one has time to play everything. That is why we at WingDamage present to you “Fashionably Late Reviews“. This is our series on games from the current generation of consoles that we may have missed on their initial release, but have gone back to experience now.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is one of those titles that I missed the first time around. I think a lot of it had to do with being burned out on Star Wars in general. There has certainly been an over-saturation of the franchise leading up to, and ever since, the prequel movies.

However, I am a long time fan of the original trilogy, as well as many of the “expanded universe” novels. It was always my plan to go back to The Force Unleashed and the Ultimate Sith Edition was the perfect excuse to do so.

Review: Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (SNES)

"Not to be confused with the non-super return"

"Not to be confused with the non-super return."

I remember being quite fond of all three games in the “Super Star Wars” series when the Super Nintendo was still the latest and greatest. After-all, even to this day my favorite genre remains the 2D platformer. Because of this, it was especially jarring to pull “Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” out of my retro shelf only to find out my childhood memories were about to be shattered.

It’s amazing how much better games can appear through the rose-tinted glasses of our memories. Eight-year-old Jesse would like me to believe that Return of the Jedi is a flawless platformer on par with other greats in the genre. Eight-year-old Jesse is a filthy liar.

Review: Super Empire Strikes Back (SNES)

super empire strikes back review title screen wingdamage.com

When I was given the assignment of playing “Super Empire Strikes Back”, I was elated. I have always considered the Super NES run of action/platformers to be second only to the Knights of the Old Republic on my internal ranking of awesome Star Wars games and Empire (just like its cinematic counterpart) was the best of the three.

I remember throwing this game in from time to time and running through it in an afternoon. Apparently between the last time I played the game and today I have lost a step or two, because this game killed me in the face. (more…)

super-star-wars review snes wingdamage.com

It is safe to say that “Super Star Wars” came out for the SNES at the perfect time during my youth. It was 1992, so I was about 12 years old. My friends and I were just starting to discover our love of the Star Wars films. We had all watched the movies growing up, but had not yet gone into that phase where we were obsessing over them.

One of us rented “Super Star Wars” and we were all hooked. We started delving more and more into the universe, picking up the expanded universe novels, which at the time were just starting to get off the ground. By the time “Super Return of the Jedi” came out in 1994, we were full fledged Star Wars nerds.

So how does “Super Star Wars” stack up now?

Warning Spoilers Ahead

"Turns out it was his sled."

"Turns out it was his sled."

Are there any words that are as tempting and forbidden as “Warning Spoilers Ahead?” If you are like me there are two opposing forces that immediately begin fighting it out when you read those 3 little words. You don’t want to ruin the experience, of whatever is that’s about to get spoiled, but at the same time you want to know if the experience is worth it. What if what you find out is enough to make you think: ‘eh, this looks dumb I don’t need to play it.’ It is like jumping to the last page of a comic to see Batman standing triumphant, you are seeing a little teasing glimpse into the future and you know ‘hey, Batman makes it through all right.’

So why are so many people obsessed with finding out spoilers? Why are so many people obsessed with spoiling things for others? What is the expiration date on spoilers? Read ahead, but hey quick warning there’s some spoilers ahead.

"Suckers..."

"Suckers..."

I managed to convince Masterlookas, our resident Star Wars geek, to try the new “Star Wars: Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance” DS game.  The game is based off the latest thing that George Lucas has done to destroy Star Wars.  The following are some of the things Luke screamed as he attempted to play…
