The 10 Game Soundtracks of 2010 That Really Stuck With Me

The Top 10 Best Game Soundtracks of 2010

Let me just get this out of the way. I hesitate to throw around terms like “the best soundtrack of 2010″ anymore because frankly, music is very subjective. I’m not trying to lay down “the facts” on which OST wins. Rather, my goal is to share with readers some of the soundtracks of 2010 that I personally enjoyed. If you’re favorite soundtrack isn’t discussed below, don’t take it personally.

With that said, I’d like to say a few words about my favorite soundtracks from last year. For your convenience, I’ve provided links on where you can purchase these soundtracks as well as a three minute “sampler” medley of each game, just to give you a taste of what to expect.

Let the music appreciation begin!

2010 has come and gone. We’ve narrowly avoided drowning in the deep sea of game releases and now we’re here to tell you which games stood out among all the chaos. We polled our rag-tag group of writers on their top ten GOTY choices, then fed the results into a magical formula to decide what we collectively deem “the hottest of jams.”

Review: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

First I was pissed off, I was agonized. Kept thinking how much fun you were, but at 97 stars I died. But I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong, and I grew strong. I learned how to carry on. And now you’re back from outer space. I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face. I should have changed that stupid lock. I should have made you leave your key. If I’d known for just one second you’d be back here with Yoshi.

Super Mario Galaxy, and really 3D Mario in general, is one of those weird games for me. While I’ve been a big Mario fan from my scrappy youth, Super Mario 64 just didn’t gel with me. It was fun, but awkward. And for every one thing about it I came to like, there was something else that wanted to prevent me from fully enjoying the game.

Apparently, Nintendo seems to feel there are a lot of people like me out there since, with Super Mario Galaxy, they’ve strived to pull in their Wii Sports and New Super Mario Bros.-loving expanded audience. They’ve done this by throwing in 2D oriented stage segments, by making spherical levels that are hard to get lost on, by making the camera better, and by making the controls simpler.

"Is this our Wii HD holy grail solution?"

With the increasing number of HDTVs in homes, many Wii owners have cried out for a “Wii HD”; something that could make their games shine with all the P’s the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have been enjoying. In all honesty, I don’t think the Wii HD will ever happen. I feel brave (or stupid) enough to say that right before E3.

Our only non-emulator based HD solution for Wii seems to lie in the VD-W3 Wii HDMI Upscaler Processor.  But does it actually work?
