Tales from the Backlog #4: Costume Quest (PSN, XBLA, PC)
“Tales From the Backlog” is a series of articles in which WingDamage Editor-in-Chief, Jonah Gregory, finally gets around to playing through the many games he has collected throughout the years.
A while back, we did a week of articles about the Super Nintendo for the console’s 20th anniversary. It got me thinking about something I really enjoy in games: Charm.
Sure, some people thought its design looked too much like a toy, or that purple was a dumb choice, but to me it showed what Nintendo was there to do: have fun playing some video games. That is what I am there to do as well. I love gaming and I love talking about games, but cutting edge graphics, fancy lighting effects, and 32x anti-aliasing does not a good game make. I can appreciate cutting edge graphics as much as the next guy, but they aren’t something I get hung up on.
With the recent Kickstarter campaign for the as yet unknown new point-and-click adventure game from Double Fine, I was interested to go back and check out some of their downloadable titles that I missed the first time around. I was also in the mood for an RPG, so starting with Costume Quest was a no-brainer.
Tales From the Backlog #3: Mega Man Legends (PS1)

Well folks, it looks like I already blew it. This series of articles was started as nothing more than an excuse for me to play through old video games, specifically ones that I either completely missed or never finished back when they were new. But with Mega Man Legends, it turns out I actually did complete it way back when.
Still, it was a great excuse to play through what is a more enjoyable experience than I was expecting.
That may have come out sounding more like a backhanded compliment than intended. The truth of the matter is, our memories are dirty liars. There are so many games from the PS1 era that don’t hold up (I’m not singling it out, N64 is at least as guilty of this, if not more so), that I was very worried Mega Man Legends was going to fall into that category.
Tales From the Backlog #2: Retro Game Challenge (DS)
“Tales From the Backlog” is a series of articles in which WingDamage Editor-in-Chief, Jonah Gregory, finally gets around to playing through the many games he has collected throughout the years.
It isn’t often when a game comes along that pushes all the right nostalgia buttons. Everything I had heard and seen about Retro Game Challenge should have made me run out and buy the game on day one. Jesse even gave it a good review. I know, I’m part of the problem in this case and not the solution.
As part of my attempt to catch up on the awesome games I’ve missed over the years, I knew I had to remedy this situation. Fortunately, Amazon still carried Retro Game Challenge, as it seems to have disappeared from most store shelves.
Tales From the Backlog #1: Assassin’s Creed (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

I knew that a new addition to the family was going to mean a couple of things. First, less time for gaming and second, less money to spend on games. Don’t get me wrong, these are sacrifices I went in wholeheartedly expecting and willing to make, but it is also changes the nature of some of the coverage I am able to do here on WingDamage. At least for the time being.
On that note, I decided now was the best time (and the best excuse) I would ever have to start working through my pile of shame. You know, that stack of games you never get around to finishing?
First up on my list was Assassin’s Creed. It is a game that I tried very briefly after its launch, but until recently never had much interest in. This was before my epiphany during Saints Row 2 wherein open world games finally clicked for me. So after months of urging from Wes and Adam’s recent endeavors with the series, I decided it was the perfect place to start on my backlog.
